Iran director joins Singapore Film Festival jury

Iranian director Rasul Sadr-Ameli joins the jury panel of the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival.

Iranian director Rasul Sadr-Ameli  has become a member of the jury panel of the  Singapore South Asian International Film Festival.

Roger Garcia, a film critic and the former director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival, actors Yashoda Wimaladharma from Sri Lanka and Suhasini Maniratnam from India, and filmmakers Sabiha Sumar from Pakistan and Rajiv Menon from India are the other members of the jury.

Iranian director, playwright and journalist Rasoul Sadr-Ameli began his screen career as a producer in 1980 and made his first feature film as a director in 1982.

He has produced a few movies, including ‘Paeezan’ (1987), ‘The Victim’ (1991), ‘I Saw Your Dad Last Night Aida’ (2004), ‘Night’ (2007), ‘Every Night, Loneliness’ (2007), ‘Life with Closed Eyes’ (2008), and ‘Awaiting a Miracle’ (2009).

His movie ‘Chrysanthemum’ (1984) received five Golden Awards from the 3rd Fajr Film Festival and a Best Film award from the Pyongyang International Film Festival.

‘The Girl in the Sneakers’ (1998) also won numerous domestic and international awards.

In 2002, Sadr-Ameli won the Fajr Festival Crystal Simorgh for Best Director for ‘I am Taraneh, 15’. The movie won awards from several international festivals, including Brisbane International Film Festival Interfaith Award, Thessaloniki International Film Festival FIPRESCI Prize, and the Locarno International Film Festival.

‘I Saw Your Dad Last Night Aida’, ‘Night’, and ‘Every Night, Loneliness’ have won several domestic and international awards as well.
